2027 HOTELEX China Food Expo: Product Category Upgrades and Foodservice Supply Chain Procurement Trends

Overall Shift: From a Broader Supply of Foodservice Ingredients to More Efficient Foodservice Supply Chain Procurement and Business Solutions.

The exhibition scale of the 2027 HOTELEX China Food Expo is set to expand from 150,000 square meters to nearly 300,000 square meters, with more than 5,000 high-quality foodservice suppliers expected to participate. The exhibition will also extend beyond traditional ingredient supply to cover foodservice applications, processing equipment, and business solutions, providing restaurant chains, hotels, institutional catering operators, food manufacturers, central kitchens, and distributors with a more comprehensive range of foodservice supply chain resources.

Trend 1: Further Specialization of Product Categories, Featuring 18 Professional Categories, Three Concurrent Exhibitions, and Four Themed Zones to Strengthen Full-Chain Foodservice Supply and Improve Supplier-Buyer Matching.

The 2027 HOTELEX China Food Expo will evolve from a general category-based exhibition into a more specialized platform covering 18 professional categories. These include prepared food ingredients, hot pot bases, compound seasonings, hot pot ingredients, meat products, aquatic products and seafood, frozen products, barbecue ingredients, specialty ingredients and snacks, Japanese and Korean cuisine, frozen dim sum, noodle and rice toppings, rice, flour and cooking oils, beverages and beverage ingredients, foodservice supporting products, food processing equipment, food packaging equipment, central kitchen equipment, and commercial kitchen equipment.

Building on this structure, the exhibition will feature three concurrent exhibitions: the Foodservice Total Solutions Exhibition, the Shanghai International Hot Pot Industry Exhibition, and the Shanghai International Food Processing and Packaging Equipment Exhibition. It will also establish four themed zones: Hot Pot Ingredients; Meat, Poultry and Aquatic Products; Beverages and General Foodservice Products; and Processing and Packaging Equipment. Together, these platforms will bring key product categories into sharper focus while fostering collaboration across upstream and downstream sectors.

With a more specialized and clearly organized exhibition layout, professional visitors will be able to identify target zones based on their purchasing lists and business needs, shortlist suitable suppliers, and compare products and solutions more efficiently. This will reduce time spent on less relevant exhibits, improve supplier-buyer matching, and enhance business networking efficiency.

Trend 2: Core Ingredients and Standardized Products Remain Dominant. Prepared Food Ingredients, Hot Pot Ingredients, Meat Products, and Aquatic Products Continue to Form the Exhibition's Core Supply Categories, Addressing Standardized Food Preparation and Cost Control Challenges.

Prepared food ingredients and compound seasonings each account for approximately 16% of the product category mix, jointly ranking among the leading categories and serving as key components of the foodservice supply chain at the 2027 HOTELEX China Food Expo.

In response to the core needs of restaurant chains, including standardized food preparation, menu innovation, and cost optimization, the exhibition will showcase innovative ingredients, specialty dishes, compound seasonings, and solutions designed to improve kitchen efficiency and accelerate service.

Professional visitors will be able to source standardized products and menu solutions tailored to different foodservice formats in one place. These offerings will help businesses maintain consistent taste and quality while reducing kitchen workload, minimizing ingredient waste, optimizing cost per serving, and improving food preparation and service efficiency.

Trend 3: Accelerated Clustering of the Hot Pot Industry Supply Chain. A Comprehensive Range of Upstream and Downstream Suppliers Is Driving the Category Beyond Ingredient Displays Toward a Specialized Exhibition Covering the Entire Hot Pot Industry Chain.

Hot pot-related exhibitors account for approximately 26% of all exhibitors across the themed zones at the 2027 HOTELEX China Food Expo, making hot pot one of the exhibition's most concentrated areas for high-quality supply chain resources.

The hot pot sector brings together a broad range of categories, including hot pot ingredients, hot pot bases, compound seasonings, meat products, aquatic products, frozen dim sum, and foodservice supporting products. Together, these categories form a comprehensive supply system spanning the upstream and downstream segments of the hot pot industry.

Addressing the core needs of hot pot restaurant chains—including new product sourcing, menu innovation, specialty broth development, ingredient cost optimization, and reliable supply—the exhibition will serve as a professional procurement platform integrating new product showcases, supply chain purchasing, technical applications, and targeted business matchmaking.

This approach will support the hot pot industry in moving beyond standalone ingredient displays toward a more comprehensive, scenario-driven, and specialized model covering the entire industry chain.

Trend 4: Food Processing and Packaging Equipment Is Becoming Increasingly Specialized, with the Industry Moving Toward Automation, Intelligence, and Higher Production Efficiency to Address Capacity Expansion, Labor Costs, Standardized Processing, and Consistent Product Quality.

The 2027 HOTELEX China Food Expo will further strengthen its presence in food processing and packaging equipment. Exhibitors specializing in food processing and packaging, as well as central kitchen equipment, account for approximately 17% of all exhibitors across the themed zones, making this an important segment of the exhibition.

Covering food ingredient processing, food packaging, central kitchens, and commercial kitchen equipment, the exhibition will further develop a full-chain equipment supply system spanning raw material handling, food processing, automated packaging, and central kitchen production.

Focusing on the needs of food manufacturers, central kitchens, restaurant chains, and foodservice supply chain enterprises, the exhibition will showcase smart processing equipment, automated packaging technologies, central kitchen systems, and efficient production solutions. These offerings will address key priorities such as production automation, capacity expansion, cost reduction, operational efficiency, standardized processing, and intelligent upgrades.

By shifting from individual equipment displays toward integrated, intelligent production solutions, the exhibition will expand its commercial value in food manufacturing and the production side of the foodservice supply chain.

Trend 5: The Foodservice Total Solutions Exhibition Makes Its National Debut, Marking a Shift from Individual Products to Integrated, Scenario-Based Solutions Across Multiple Categories and Foodservice Formats.

The 2027 HOTELEX China Food Expo will place a new emphasis on the Foodservice Total Solutions Exhibition, which will make its debut at the event. Exhibitors in this segment currently account for approximately 13% of all exhibitors across the themed zones, highlighting its growing role in expanding the exhibition's service scope across the foodservice supply chain.

Covering a wide range of foodservice formats, including hot pot, barbecue, Chinese cuisine, fast food, noodle shops, snack businesses, and beverage outlets, the exhibition will integrate specialty ingredients, smart kitchen equipment, central kitchen systems, digital management tools, and foodservice business support resources.

With a focus on menu development, cost reduction, operational efficiency, standardized operations, supply chain coordination, and restaurant upgrades, the exhibition will create a one-stop platform for showcasing solutions and facilitating business connections across product development, ingredient procurement, food processing, and store operations.

This initiative will further expand the exhibition's value beyond ingredient purchasing, providing broader support for the overall operation and development of foodservice businesses.

Trend 6: Beverage Offerings Are Evolving Toward Greater Diversity, Scenario-Based Applications, and Standardized Preparation, Becoming Increasingly Integrated into Foodservice Menus to Help Restaurant Chains Expand Consumption Occasions, Optimize Product Portfolios, and Improve Business Performance.

The 2027 HOTELEX China Food Expo will further enhance its beverage and beverage ingredient categories, with a focus on tea-based drinks, coffee, fruit and vegetable beverages, specialty drinks, and related raw and auxiliary materials.

This development will move beverage offerings beyond standalone product displays toward menu integration, standardized preparation, and applications across multiple consumption scenarios, providing restaurant brands with a wider range of food-and-beverage integration solutions.

Addressing the needs of restaurant chains, tea and coffee chains, hotels, and institutional catering operators in areas such as beverage launches, menu innovation, product differentiation, and operational efficiency, the exhibition will showcase innovative beverages, specialty ingredients, beverage equipment, and standardized preparation solutions.

These offerings will help restaurant chains diversify their beverage menus, expand consumption occasions, increase product added value, and improve overall business performance.
